Sabinal Charm

About 20 years ago, Chris Colvin took on a part-time bookkeeping position for Texas Peddlers Mall. Eight years ago, she had the opportunity to purchase the business. She renamed it Rustic Charm and moved into her current downtown Sabinal location.

When Chris first started as the part-time bookkeeper, she didn’t have this plan in mind; it just came together over the years. Along with her partner, Carol Covey, they have succeeded in creating a business that is frequented by locals, new and returning visitors traveling through town.

She will tell you it doesn’t feel like work when you love what you’re doing. She says she’s not rich, just rocking along. Chris will also tell you how much she loves Sabinal.

Pillows expressing how Chris feels about Sabinal are available at Rustic Charm.

Chris was born and raised in Sabinal. She spent 9 years away, during that time, she knew she wanted to be home with family here in Sabinal and in Concan.

“I care deeply for my town, it is a part of me. I want to see our town succeed. There’s been good and bad years, shops closing up,” said Chris, “When I was a kid, Sabinal was a quaint little town. The theater was still open, we had two drug stores, the bank, three grocery stores, a Ford dealership, a lumber company, a public swimming pool, a five and dime, a dress shop, and much more.”

Chris, our current Chamber of Commerce president, joined the chamber years ago. At times it has been a struggle to get business owners to meet. Chris is passionate about keeping the chamber going.

“I want our city to succeed. I want growth for Sabinal. It would be great to have a hotel here.”

Chris’s passion and love for Sabinal shines through at Rustic Charm.

The Sabinal Football Team’s parents approached Chris about renting the patio for team dinners. Chris said she couldn’t do that; they would have to use it for free! She’d love to support additional school clubs and teams looking for a place to gather.

The patio has held weddings, a quinceañera, bridal showers, dinners, and a celebration of life. In addition to the space, there are tables and chairs available for rent too.

The Rustic Charm patio has been home to past Chamber events like the Gumbo Cookoff and returning favorite events like the chili, beans, and margarita contests during the Lions Club’s Wild Hog Festival.

Chris’s favorite moments at Rustic Charm are in December. She loves making customers happy and seeing them happy on the way out the door with gifts for family and friends is a good thing.

Buck Naked Cowboy and Cozy Cactus are Rustic Charm’s top selling candles.

Rustic Charm is open Wednesday through Saturday from 10am to 5pm.
